Dhaka cotton shawls are so called because of their unique patterns, which are traditional to Nepal. People have been weaving these patterns, imbued with meaning, since ancient times. Some are like fishbone designs, some have beautiful flowers and others are the national flower design. There are two types of Dhaka cotton in Nepal. One is Palpali Dhaka and another is Terathum Dhaka. Palpali Dhaka comes from Palpa district of Nepal and features mostly bright vivid colours. It is used to make Nepali hats, Nepali cholo, blouses and dresses. Terathum Dhaka comes from Therathum district of Nepal and is a more sophisticated type. It is used in shawls and scarves.
Our scarves are made in Kathmandu, providing sustainable employment for local people.
